It transpires that the sharks seen off the Hobsonville wharf, Auckland, the other day, were not these fearsome fish at all, but a ‘-.chool of porpoises disporting themselves in the upper waters of the harbour (states the Auckland “Star”). Although it may seem even queerer for deep-water rangers like porpoise to be so far up than for the sea-tigers themselves, old residents declare that formerly it was not at all an uncommon sight to see a school of these small cetaceous running upon the high tide, either in pursuit of small frv or from the pure inquisitiveness which appears to be a characteristic of the species. A Hobsonville resident, who was an interested spectator of the recent visitors’ antics, estimated that the school numbered between twenty and thirty fish.
