One of the “sights” on tho big liner Carinthia is the magnificent swimming pool down in the lower portion of the vessel. A fine flight of innrblp stairs lead down to the pool, which measures 80ft. by 40ft.. lined with snow-white tiles, the pool is so deep that in the roughest weather there is no likelihood of the water spilling. In cold weather the water is heated by steam jets. Thera is wide space around the pool and a spring-hoard at one end offers.a furtbar delight to swimmers. Tho teak walls of tho swimming room are artistically patiollod. and a frieze in bronze has relief is copied from authentic. Greek vases. Rest for the swimmers is provided by six Grecian benches in marble. Frosted globes set in tall standards diffuse a soft light. On both sides of tho pool there are numerous dressing rooms, showers, sprays, electrical baths, and n.assagc tables. Tn an adjoining compartment is located the large and lofty gymnasium. A most, complete range of every appliance imaginable is provided for 'those who desire healthy exercise. The gymnasium is. conducted by a. boxing instructor, whose prowess with the gloves is candidly admit tod by the passengers., On the opposite side of tho swimming pool a squash rackets court, or concentrated playing area, has a spectators’ gallery with chairs. On tho sun decks there are wide areas for deck tennis and dancing.

An impressive ceremony was the celebration of . Gounod’s Messe Solonnello at midnight at St. Mary of tho Angels, Boulcott Street, by the Rev. Father Mahony, assisted by Rev. Father (Dr.) Chapman (deacon), and Rev. Father Murphy (sub-deacon), in the presence of a large congregation. The sermon was preached by the celebrant on tho feast of the occasion, and Father Mahony concluded by extending his greetipgs—a Holy and Jlerry Christmas. In the many renditions that wore given by the choir during the Mass were the singing of the “Adeste Fidelis.” under the baton of Signor P Truda who had with him Mr. Len Barnes (soloist) and Miss Theresa McEnroe. A general communion was attended by eight hundred of the parishioners.
