LAWN TENNIS
PALMERSTON NORTH CLUB. The executive of the Palmerston North Lawn Tennis Club at a recent meeting elected the following new members:—Messrs. D. A. Feast, R. H. Blakiston, E. D. Morrah, Basil Young, A. G. Roe, Mrs. Hall McDowell, Misses E. .Smith, A. Marshall, R. Putnam, J. Hankin, and F. McTnnes.. An entertainment committee consisting of Messrs. E. D. Andrews, J. Wt Fcrgie, N. B. Gibbons, L. Gardner, J. A. Grant, and R. V. Hooper, was appointed to act in conjunction with the Ladies’ Reception Committee, consisting of Mcsdames G. E. Haggitt (convener) , E. C. Barnett. B. F. Smith, A. Burnard. Misses O. Haggitt, Nita McHardy, Warren, Rickard, and Watson. Mr. T; A. Grant, on behalf of the Dance Committee, stated that a substantial profit had been made on the gathering held on November 18 at the Anzac Club. Mrs. G. E. Haggitt’s work in connection with the affair .was much appreciated, and it was decided to thank her for the interest she had taken in the welfare of the club. It was decided to allocate to the ladies’ handicap singles at . the open tournament in January the silver chat, lenge cup donated by Mr. H. B. Tucker.
Messrs. R. D. Hardie, Justice and Edmunds, H. N. Cooke, F. W. Connell. Cliffe and Remington, J. Kershaw, H. N Watson, and A. M. Onglev had made donations to the prize fund, and thd secretary was directed to ask the manv donors of trophies for the tournament to attend as guests of the club.
The Palmerston North Bqys* High Scliool champion and runner-up. D. Hills (Longburn) and T. Adkins (Hunterville) notified their acceptance of club membership.
