The King’s Speech at the prorogation of Parliament said: “It was a solace in my grief over my beloved mother’s death to receive from all conditions and classes in all parts of the Dominions and foreign countries touching assurances of sympathy. . “I was happy to welcome the Prince of Wales on his return from his tour, and proud to think his visit served to deepen the affection uniting mv people. ‘'l trust the Lbcarno Pact will not be only the foundation of a lasting peace, but the beginning of a friendly cooperation which cannot fail to benefit the whole world. “My heartfelt prayer is that the Irish agreement will advance co-operation and strengthen good-will in Ireland. “I express mv gratitude to all throughout the Empire who co-operat-ed in regard to Wembley.. I am sure the increased knowledge, it brought to the resources and activities of mv people will have lasting, beneficial results.” Referring to preference, the Speech stated that further preferences- to Empire goods had been accorded bv legislation and other measures for the developfiient of Empire trade were receiving close consideration bv the Government. The King’s Speech at the prorogation of the Ulster Parliament stated that he was deeply gratified at the London agreement, and prayed that the relations between the Ulster and Free State Parliaments and people would be cemented in a spirit of goodwill and friendship.—Aus.-N.Z, Cable Assn.
