PAYMENT TO PENSIONERS

LACK OF ACCOMMODATION 1 .

A striking evidence of the inconvenience caused bv the shortage of accommodation in the Palmerston Post Office buildings was to be had yesterday morning, when, in accordance with the practice on th'e 23rd of each month, those in receipt of pensions were required ,to journey to'the courthouse for payment. Tn the smaller court room two post office officials worked at high pressure in order to deal with a long queue of anxiously waiting people. Although these folk are doubtless willing to go anvwhere to suit the convenience of the Department, it is to be hoped that before long additional post office accommodation will be available whereiu they may be attended to. A great many are probablv a little sensitive 'about going to the courthouse to receive appreciated State assistance in their declining years.
