IFrom Our Own Correspondent.) Nelson, November 12. Thirty tons of oil-boring plant for the Murchison Oil Company was landed at Nelson yesterday, and it is expected that a start to test, the oilfields in that district will be made /is soon as possible. At the monthly meeting of the Hampden Street School Committee it was decided to offer the Education Department £l6O towards the cost of building two additional rooms, providing that the work was taken in hand without delay. The roll now totals 356, and the average attendance for the month was shown at 94.2 per cent. On becoming a candidate tor the Nelson seat at the general election, Mr. A. Gilbert, one of the Government nominees on the Harbour Board, resigned liis seat. At yesterday’s meeting of the board the resignation was received with regret, and it was resolved to ask the Government, while disapproving of nominees, that Mr. Gilbert be reappointed, if it was decided to fill the vacancy. A report on the Nelson wharves by Mr. Holmes, of Wellington, was submilted to yesterday’s meeting of the Harbour Board. The recommendations involve a considerable sum, and it vas .resolved to postpone consideration until next meeting. The official figures in the election contest for the Nelson seat are: H. Atmore, 4951; A. Gilbert, 2485; T. Brindle, 1100. Majority for Atmore, 2466. Of 9945 electors on the roll 8536 valid and 64 informal votes were cast. The licensing figures were: Continuance, 3991 (3749 in 1922); State Control, 777 (596); Prohibition, : 3783 (3820). Informal, 86 (100).

The quarterly meeting of the public Service Superannuation Board was held on Thursday, Mr. J. W. Macdonald presiding. Thirty-three contributors retired under section 35 of the Act by reason of or length of service were granted allowances of a total of xJoob per' annum, and two contributors retired as medically unfit were granted allowances totalling £Bl per annum. A special allowance was granted to one contributor, retired on account of injuries received whilst on .police duty’. Ten widows and two children were granted the statutory allowances amounting to £362 per annum. In consequence of retirements under section 35 of the Act, accrued compensation to the amount of £5027 became a liability of the superannuation fund, and a corresponding relief ■ to the Consolidated Fund.
