MAKARA COUNTY

JOHNSONVILLE-PORIRUA ROAD PROPOSALS. The Makara County Council held its monthly meeting yesterday, the chairman Mr. E. Windley presiding. Plans submitted by the engineer in connection with the reconstruction of the maiiif road between Johnsonville and Porirua were approved, and are to be forwarded on to the Main Highways' Board. The proposal, which is estimated to cost £15,000, will be the subject of a poll. Notice boards are to be erected and placed on the main highways for the purpose of enabling motorists to define the county’s boundaries. The advice of the Main Highways Board, will be sought concerning suggested improvements on the dangerous Ngahaurnngti Gorge Road. The foreman has reported to the council on the damage arising from the recent floods. Besides all manner of work being interrupted in the county, a loss amounting to several hundred pounds was sustained. It was decided to defer the proposal made by the’ aßilway Department offering to erect an overhead bridge at Porirua until a later date. Accounts amounting to £540 10s. od. were passed for payment.
