There are five thousand registered professional association footballers in England and 750,000 amateur players.

Allegations that drinking was going on among Citv Council employees during working hours were made by Mr. Watson at a meeting of the Nelson Citv Council (states an exchange). This led to a resolution signed by 50 employees asking for an iitvuiry, and it was resolved that the reciuest be acceded to. Tlie recommendation (states the “Star”) was adopted, it being held that it was only right that the board’s employees should be paid overtime if called on to work berthing vessels on Sundays. '
