MASCOT FOR SEATTLE
OFFER OF LION CUBS DECLINED Through his gift of a lion to the Wellington Zoo, Mr. J. J. Boyd has a halfinterest in all litters"produced there. Recently a family of four were born. The two that belong to Mr. Boyd were offered to Admiral Coontz as mascots, fot the flagship, but, though appreciated, they were refused, on the ground that lion cubs had an incurable habit of growing up, when they would have to be got rid of. It is suggested that the most appropriate mascot to present the flagship with would be a tuatara lizard from Stephen Island—said to be the only living representative on earth of a very interesting form of life. A tuatara is harmless, economical (it only eats about once a mouth), and is said to live for a hundred years.
