BIRTHRATE IN BRITAIN

LAST QUARTER’S LOW RECORD (Rec. August 19, 5.5 p.m.) London, August 18. The births in England and Wales during the quarter ended June 30 totalled 187,000, equal to the lowest birthrate recorded in any second quarter except in the war years 1917-19. The births comprised 95,000 males and 91,000 females. Deaths numbered 11,200, which is .01 per thousand below that of the second quarter last year. The deaths comprised 5800 males and 5400 females.
