At a meeting of the Lyall Bay branch of the Labour Party, the following resolution was carried: “That this meeting desires to emphasise the requests made by Labour Party branches and others, that a public inquiry be made on the matter of shunting accidents on the New Zealand Railways. 'ln furtherance of this object, the Premier be written to and asked to take steps to prevent further loss of shunters’ lives, and to remove the impression that the Government has become callous as to the loss of IF', amongst shuntirs."
