THEFT FROM CHURCH DOOR

When Reginald Ashbv went into a city church last Sunday' night, he left certain of his belongings near the door outside, but when he came out a suitcase containing articles to the value of £7 10s. was missing. A sequel to this incident took place in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday morning, when Denis William Quill was charged with having stolen Ashby’s things. Chief-Detective Kemp said that accused when arrested was in a very muddled condition. He had sold the stolen goods to a waitress for five shillings. The Magistrate (Mr. Riddell) remarked that he did not know whether reformative treatment would do Quill any good or not. He had been in trouble before. However, he wop Id place him on reformative treatment for a period of two years. Quill was also sentenced to three months’ imprisonment, the Magistrate saying that it seemed the only chance to get him off the drink.
