A MEAN THIEF

MAN WHO TOOK FRIEND’S MONEY. Norman Nesbitt and Squire Euraka Shaw were friends, inasmuch as they boarded and shared the same room together. But the latter began to miss money from his pockets and became suspicious. He told the police, and Nesbitt was arrested. This is what Chief Detective Kemp told Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday, when Nesbitt (aged 19) was charged with stealing .£4, the property of the informant. Accused pleaded guilty, and was placed on probation for six months. He was also ordered to pay the money back at the rate of .£1 a month. “It is a most paltry way of obtaining money by taking it from a friend,” remarked the 'Magistrate. "However, you should profit by the experience.”
