COAL DISPUTE
.OWNERS PROPOSE JOINT MEETING TO CLARIFY' POSITION By Telegraph—Press Association. Copyright. London, July 21. The “Daily Herald” says that the coal negotiations are now likely to result in pressure on the owners to withdraw their proposals. The owners, after meeting the Court of Inquire, sent a letter to Mr. A. J. Cook, secretary of the Workers’ Federation, proposing a meeting for the purpose of exploring the misunderstanding of the owners’ position. They feel sure that it will show that there is now no dif ference between the parties on this preliminary point. The miners’ executive will consider the letter to-morrow morning, and if they consider the-employers’ assurances satisfactory a joint meeting will sibly take place in the afternoon.— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. TRANSPORT WORKERS TO' HELP MINERS (Rec. July 22, 11.15 p.m.) London, July 21. A conference of the transport workers at Scarborough passed a resolution empowering the executive to co-oper-ate with the Trade Union Congress’ Council in assisting the miners to resist to the utmost the imposition of the proposed conditions, and also demanding the unconditional reopening of the negotiations.—Reuter.
