TRAINS TO LAMBTON
STILL DECLARED IMPRACTICABLE
The question of an arrangement for the running of all Manawatu line passenger trains, except express and. mail trains, to Lambton Station instead of to Thorndon till the new central station is built, probably many years hence, was the subject of an inquiry by Mr. W. H. Field, M.P. for Otaki, of the Minister of Railways. Mr. Coates replied that the matter was receiving careful consideration, but with every desire to meet the request fie regretted to say tfiat it was not a practicable proposal. He pointed out that while the construction of the new station and yard was in progress any additional traffic would have a very serious effect in increasing the difficulties which must necessarily arise in carrying on the ordinary ’ services. The desirability of dealing with the whole of the Wellington passenger traffic at one station was fully recognised, and in carrying out the work in connection with the new lay-out no effort would be spared to make the station available for the whole of the passenger traffic at the earliest possible moment.
