WAR IN MOROCCO
MANY DIFFICULTIES FACING' FRANCE STRENGTH OF ENEMY FORCES (Rcc. May 7, 7.10 p.m.) Paris, May 6. French correspondents in Morocco admit that France is faced with many difficulties. It is estimated that Abdel Krim has five thousand regulars and fifteen hundred volunteers. The Riffs are well supplied with wireless, aeroplanes and artillery. The latter’s shooting is so good that the French are wondering whether the gunners are Arabs.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
RIFF’S HEAVY CASUALTIES * (Rec. May 7, 7.10 p.m.) Paris, May 6. A communique from Morocco states that the French centre column cleared the Taounat heights, after fierce resistance by the enemy, consisting of regulars, assisted by local tribesmen. A “Temps” telegram from Fez says the French lost four officers and 44 men killed, and 150 wounded. The Riffs’ casualties were ten times greater. —Reuter.
