WELLINGTON STOCK EXCHANGE SATURDAY’S BUSINESS AND PRICES There were no transactions recorded on Saturday. A good business was done on the Stock Exchanges during the week. The turnover in Government stocks and bonds was small. The 4| per cents, sold at £96 ss. and £96 7s. 6d., with buyers at £96 ss. The 5 per cents, had quittance at £9B, with buyers at £97 305., and tlie 5{ per cents at £lOl, £lOl 155., and £lOl. Business in debentures was restricted to those of New Zealand Breweries, which changed hands at 225. 3d., 225., 21s. 9d., and 225. A fair business was done in Bank shares. Commercial Bank of Australia shares sold at £6 13s. 6d., Bank of Australasia shares at £l4, Bank of New South Wales at £ll 7s. 6d. and £4l 10s., Bank of New Zealand at 525. 9d., 525. 6d., and 525. 9d., Bank of New Zealand rights at 31s. 3d., 31s. 2d., 31s. 3d.; there were quite ,a number of Union Bank shares at £l4, and National Bank of Australia shares, £lO paid, sold at £l5 16s. There was better business done in the shares of financial companies than for some time past. Loan and Mercantile ordinary stock sold at £94, and preference stock at £79 and £79 10s. Goldsbrough, Mort and Co.’s shares changed hands at 475. 3d., Dalgety and Co.’s shares at £l5 15s. and £l5 165., and New Zealand and River Plate shares at 21s. Insurance shares were quiet. The only transaction recorded during the week was in New Zealand Insurance, which changed hands at 31s. Meat shares were slow. Sales were reported of New Zealand Refrigerating, 20s. paid, at 19s. 6d., and 10s. paid at 9s. 7d., 9s. Bd., 9s. 10d., and 9s. Bd. Fluddart-Parker ordinary shares changed hands at 445., 445. 9d., 445. 6d., and Union Steam at 20s. 4d. Woollen shares have been neglected for some time, but a sale of Kaiapoi Woollen ordinary shares at 18s. was registered during the week. Wellington Woollen preference shares were in demand at £6 4s. Very little business was done in Coal shares. Taupiri Coal ordinary shares changed hands at 18s., and Westport-Stockton ordinary at 35.; Westport Coal .shares were in demand at 325. Gd., and Waipa Coal at 225. Timber shares were in good demand, but sales were few. Kauri Timber shares sold at 325. 9d., and Nalional Timber at 235. lOd. and 235. 9d. Brewery shares were slow. New Zealand Breweries shares sold at 38s. Gd., and Ward and Co.'s shares at 595. 6d.
