GOOD FRIDAY TRAMS
AUCKLAND COUNCIL’S DECISION / Br Telegbafh—special Correspondent. Auckland, March 20. An ordinary Sunday tram service to be run on Good Friday was recommended bv the tramways manager to the City Council last evening. The report stated that since the inauguration of the service it had beefi the custom to close the system down on Good Friday, when the employees held their annual picnic. The traffic position today, however, rendered it necessary to run cars on Good Friday, but the manager did not anticipate that a decision to that effect would have the unanimous support of the men. He was of the opinion, nevertheless, that sufficient men would be available to run an ordinary Sundav service. The Mayor (Sir James Gunson) said that the council could not see its way to close down the trams and let the opposition vehicles run. The report was adopted, and it was decided that in the circumstances the council would require a Sundav service to be run on Good Friday. The matter vyas referred to the Tramway Committee to acquaint the men of the decision.
