BOWLS

CHAMPION PAIRS FINAL GAMES THIS AFTERNOON The Thorndon Club provided a perfect green for the champion pairs of the Wellington Centre, which were played yesterday in weather which no bowler could cavil at. Such ideal conditions put good heart into all the contestants with the result that the matches were marked by play of a good standard. The results were as follow: — FIRST ROUND. Eastbourne (McKay and Munro) beat Khandallah (Douglas and Fletcher), 22 -12, Seatopn (Boon and H. M. McGirr) beat Karori (Burn and Cooper), 26—21. Thorndon (Hyams and Munro) beat Island Bay (Earpshaw and Duff), 26—15. Hataitai (CominetU and Martin) beat Lyall Bay (Topp and Raven). 23—20. SECOND ROUND. Upper Hutt (Goodwin and Naylor) beat Johnsonville (Jacobs and Mills). 22—16. Victoria (Jamieson and Jldlton) beat Newtown (Sexton and Brackenridge), 22—10. Kelburn (Williams and Gray) beat Central (Tempest and Pawson), 34—11. Hutt (Keir anil Davidson) beat Wellington and Dawson), 19—13. THIRD,ROUND. Eastbourne beat Hataitai, 19—15. Thorndon beat Seatoun, 24—19. Victoria beat Lower Hutt, 28—17. Upper Hutt bent Kelburn, 23 —22. / SEMI-FINAL. The following draw has been made for the semi-final games, which will commence on tho Thorndon green at 1 p.m to-day :— Eastbourne v, Thorndon. Upper Hutt v. Victoria. lhe final game will commence at 4 p.m.

One feature yesterday was the remarkable reversal in scores in the game between Gray (Kelburn) and Naylor (Upper Hutt) in the third round. In the first four heads the Upper Hutt pair looked like overwhelming the Kelburn couple, who seemed almost ipeapabffi of drawing scoring shots. At the thirteenth head the score stood at 28—9 in favour of the suburban pair; but from that out the latter did not score a single point, whilst Kelburn slowly piled on the points until on the last head Kelburn wanted three to tie and four to win. Williams drew a couple of good shots, which were not displaced, and, though Gray attempted to push some of his front wood into the .scoring area he was unable to do so. Naylor, in a fading light, who was unable to crack up the head, managed to win by a single point Son his score as it stood on the thirteenth head. »

The two brothers Munro are skipping two of the pairs left in the semi-final games—one for Eastbourne and the other for Thermion. ‘

'Among the players who reached the third round in_the pairs competition yesterday was H. M, McGirr, the wellknown representative cricketer, who played a sound game for Seatoun.
