CIVIL SERVICE TOURNEY. Despite a light drizzling rain, the semifinals and final of the Civil Service tourney were played off at the Thorndon green. The first two matches were Education (Porteous s.) v. Printing Office (Wilson s.), and Post and Telegraph (Kelly s.) v. Post and Telegraph (Duncan «.). and in both cases there was only one point between each winner and loser. The first-named match took the palm for interest, for the teams were 20 all at the twenty-first head, so another head had to be played. This was made a dead-head by Porteous when the Printers were 2 up. The substitute head was very close, and when the two skips went down the Printers were 2 up; Wilson played his first Jxiwl, but did not affeet the score, then Porteous sent a beautiful shot down and cut the opponents’ two out. Wilson tried his last howl, but failed, and Porteous rested on the score, 21—20 in his favour. The final was contested by the Pest nnd Telegraph team (Kelly’s) and the Education team (Porteous s,l, and was ns keen a contest as the previously-men-tioned game. On the twenty-first head the teams were equal, and so an extra head was played, which left Portenus’s link winners of tlio championship, SO--19.
