November 28, 10.40 p.m,) Sydney, November 28. The Sheffield Shield match, New South Wales versus South Australia was commenced to-day in fine weather on a perfect wicket. New South Wales won the toss, and batted, and had four wickets down for 312 (Rock 127, Andrews 96, Kippax 21 not out, Ratcliffe 29) when stumps were drawn. Rock opened the innings and batted confidently, scoring at a fast rate. He gave one chance, but played delightful cricket, a feature of the innings being his driving, which frequently rattled the palings. Andrews batted vigorously, and his partnership with Rock put on 184. OTAGO HIGH SCHOOL i (Br Telegrafh-—Press Association) Oamaru, November 28. In the annual cricket match played here to-day, Waitaki High School defeated Otago Boys' High School by seven wickets. Otago made 159 and 100 (Allen 46), and Waitaki 201 and 50 for three wickets. (Blundell 47, Francis 42). For Otago Rodger (four wickets for 80), and for Waitaki Blundell (four for 54 and three for 28). Evans (six for 27), and GHkison (four for 32), were the most successful trundlers. In their first innings High School made 131 (Jacobs 18, Hobbs 28, Webster 25); Guy took three wickets for 45 runs, S. Wilson three for 26. In their second innings High School ran up 189 for eight wickets (Jacobs 27, Hobbs 53, Billcliff 20, Merritt 23, Webster not out 22); Guy took Jour wickets for 41, Riley three for 47. In their first innings Christ’s College made 243, and in the second had no wickets down for 34 (Guy 14, Wilson 20). REPRESENTATIVE GAMES. In a telegram received by th® Wellington Cricket Association from the Otago body it was stated that Otago originally suggested that Auckland should play them at Christmas, and play Canterbury in the New Year. Since then, however Otago has come to the conc’usion that Christmas dates would suit Canterbury better than Otago, as Canterbury are a day nearer Wellington. Otago hrs questioned Wellington as to whether arrangements can be made with Auckland to alter the tour so that the northern team may play Canterbury at Christmas. In an endeavour to meet the requirements of the Otago Association, Wellington has telegraphed Auckland, Canterbury, and Otago, suggesting that Auckland should play Otago at Christmas, and play Canterbury m the New Year, and that Mellingt®i play Canterbury at Christmas .in Christchurch, and Otago play Welli»gton at Wellington in the New YetirThe only dates to be arranged are those for the Wellington-Auckland match, which Wellington has suggested should be played at Auckland.
