BRITISH AND FOREIGN SAILORS’ SOCIETY

A delightful concert was given bv the pupils of Mrs. W. G. McCarthy, on Tuesday, the rooms aS 94 Jervois Quay, being filled to overflowing. ' Each item was received with great applause, the performers having to respond with numerous encores, jtis. Stewart'was hostess for the evening, whilst the chair was taken by Mr. It. R. Crerar. Supper, which was provided by the Social Committee, was handed round during the interval by the lady workers of the B. and F.S.S. A hearty vote of thanks was proposed by the” secretary of the society, which was carried by acclamation and cheers by the members present. Two very amusing sketches during the evening entitled “19507” and "A Coster Outing,” by the pupils, caused a great deal of amusement. The entertainment concluded with the singing of the National Anthem at 10 p.m. Songs were contributed by Misses Eileen Searle, B. Owen, and Mrs. Bacon, Messrs. Eddie Reynolds and Tom Forrester; ducts. Mrs. Bacon and Miss' Owen, and Messrs. Wilson and Forrester-, pianoforte items. Misses D. and M. Lennie, Conlon, Searle and Jacobsen. Mrs. McCartie was the accompanist for the evening. On Wednesday the usual mid-week social was held, ‘the rooms being again filled -with men from tho various ships in port. Songs, games, etc., were the order ofthe evening. Supper was handed round and a very pleasant rim© spent till 10.30 p.m. ’
