A gigantic scheme involving an expenditure of C160.000..000 is proposed bv the New York Transit Commission in the hope of solving the terrific problem presented by the congestion of traffic. Tt is proposed to build a railway svstem designed exclusively for suburban people within a radins of 40 miles of Now York Citv. At present, these people are all unloaded at the Great Trunk railway stations, making the congestion intolerable. The construction of two new “superstreets” with three levels is suggested—an upper one for light traffic, a second one below the surface for commercial traffic, and the lowest for the loop train service.
