KNOCK-OUT COMPETITIONS TO BE PLAYED.

Tho weekly meeting of the Management Committee of the Wellington Rugby League was held on Monday. Pre. eent Messrs. L. Price (in the chair), Buckland, Aird, Mayo, Simpson, Lawlot Hurst. Hobbs, Martin, and C. T. White (secretary-treasurer). The Pctono Borough Council wrote stating that tho dressing-shod on the had been damaged. Tho Wellington Football Association wrote thanking tho League for having granted them tho use of the Basin Reserve on August _ 23, for their Teat match with the Chinese team, and granting tho League September G, as asked for, in liou thereof. The secretary was instructed to get into touch with tho Now Zealand Council in reference to uniformity of rules throughout New Zealand. Good prospects of the code in Wellington for tho coming sAaaon wero mentioned, and it was intimated that several teams from the outlying districts would bo coming into the local competitions next year. Tho senior and junior competitions having been completed—Petone won the senior competition and Rovers B tho junior—it was decided that a knock-out competition be held in these two grades. The following fixtures up to August 30 were then drawn up:— Saturday. August 15—Knock-out competition. Senior —Petone v. Newtown (Petono No. 1, at 3); Hutt v. City (Emerson St., at 3). Junior—Rovers A v. Rovers B (Petone No. 1, at 1.30); Ilutt v. City (Petone No. 2, at 3). August 23 —Senior: A and B represen. tativo teams, at Petone. Junior—A and B representative teams, at Petone. The En.’lish League team to-day defeated the AVest Coast representatives bv 68 to 8 on a muddy field, in Ro presence of between three and four thiftisand spectators. The weather was fine, with u wind blowing downfield. Iho visitors, monopolising tho ball, recorded sixteen tries by a series of spectacular nassin-’ movements. Playing with the W ’ld ?e tho first half, tho visitors led bv ”4 to nil. The local forwards wero good hut the backs were too light, and bv constant kicking played into tho hands of Ihe visitors, whose backs monopolised the ball, scoring with monotonous repetition.
