PENSIONS

AMENDING LEGISLATION

NEXT SESSION A definite indication that there would be no Government measure introduced this session to’ amend the pension scale was made yesterday by the Minister in Charge of Pensions (Hon. G. J Anderson). Replying to a deputation, Mr. Anderson reiterated ' the view expressed by himself and by the Prime Minister during the recess that no general pension system would be satisfactory unless it were on a contributory basis, commencing early in life. He hoped to bring down a comprehensive measure next session. In the meantime, steps would be taken by the Government to remove the worst anomalies during the present sitting of Parliament.
