MARKETING COSTS
« “A SERIOUS POSITION.” The Dominion conference of the Farmers’ Union wa.s asked on Tuesday in a remit from North Canterbury io take into consideration the serious position resulting from the high cost of marketing from which southern producers suffer in supplying the North Island. Mr. R. Sinclair (Morven) said.; “If there were enough men in the North Island with sufficient go in them to form a company nnd come down to the South Island and buv their supplies in bulk they would bo surprised at the saving they would effect.” The remit was referred to a committee. Another remit submitted on behalf of North Canterbury was: “That the most important matter which has to bo dealt with by the Farmers’ Union is the investigation of means of reducing the cost of production, transport and marketing of all kinds of farm stock and produce by co-opera-tive methods, and that it is a matter of regret that so little appears to have been done in this direction during the past year.” Tin's was also referred io a committee for consideration. •'
