R. Gilligan, captain (Sussex), A. P. F. Chapman (Berks), J. L. Bryan (Kent), H. Sutcliffe (Yorkshire), A. Sandham (Surrey), F. E. Woolley (Kent), E. Hendren (Middlesex). M. W. Tate (Sussex), R. Tyldosley (Lancashire), and H. Strud-R'idk ‘(Surrey).—Sydney “Sun” Cable. REMUNERATION OF PLAYERS London, July 22. The British team to tour Australia, when finally constituted, will consist of fifteen players, of which Air. F. C. Toone, secretary of tho Yorkshire County Cricket Club, will be manager. F. T. Mann (Middlesex) declined the invitation to captain the side, owing to business claims. The remuneration of players will be £4OO, plus (if the tour is a financial success) a bonus, which will be awarded on the basis of merit and discipline, on the recommendation of the captain and manager.—Reuter. DIFFICULTY OF FINDING BOWLERS
(Rec. July 23, 8.5 p.m.) London, July 22. “The Times” expert says the selectors’ chief difficulty is to find bowlers likely to be reasonably successful on Australian wickets. Two of the last players not yet chosen must be bowlers. Ho considers the batting selection l good, and tho outfield, which was a weak spot with the 1920-21 team, ought to be superb.—“ The Times.” FENDER’S OMISSION (Rec. Tho “Daily Chronicle’s” cricket critic says it is freely stated that Fender has not been invited to make tho Australian tour because business prevents his acceptance. A heavy storm broke just after the luncheon adjournment during the South African match against Middlesex at Lord’s, and the game was abandoned. The vSsitors had lost two wickets for ]39 runs (T. A. Dio chairman of the Selection Committee exnlains that the reason whv Hobbs and Hearne have been omitted is that the former has definitelv declined to go to Australia, and Hearne i« doubtful.
