WIRELESS TELEPHONY
ENGLAND TO AUSTRALIA ' MR. MARCONI CONFIRMS ITS SUCCESS London, Juno 3. The “Daily Telegraph” reports an interview with Mr. Marconi confirming the success of tho experiment in wireless telephony between England and Australia. He said: “My beam system was not employed. It is entirely because the arrangements are not completed that the system has been used without the ‘beam,’ but nevertheless, without the beam, it had been possible to do what has never been done before. A speech was transmitted auite clearly, .and 1 am convinced it will be quite easy to conduct conversations between England and Australia : and if it is possible to conduct such conversations, it will bo practical, by. the beam system, to speak from anywhere to anywhere. There will be no distance in the future over which we cannot telephone.” Tlie interviewer asked: “Would it ho correct to say that your new system was used without the beam,” and Mr. Marconi replied: “Yes, experimentally the new system comprises something more than the beam. That something we will not speak about at present.” ’Hie earlier successful experiment between Ireland and Melbourne. Mr. Marconi said, was telegraphy not telephony.—Aus.-N.Z. Gable Assn.
