LIGHT CALENDAR IN CHRISTCHURCH.

The criminal sessions of the Supreme Court opened, to-day before Mr. Justice Adams. A stay of proceedings was entered in the case against Charles Henry Augustus Jones, charged with unlawful carnal knowledge, as he had since married tho girl. He was remanded, however, for sentence for making a false declaration under the Marriage Act.

Lionel Irving was acquitted on a charge of indecent exposure. Wilfred Roland Wildey was acquitted on a charge of breaking, entering and theft. His Honour, when discharging him. said that he was a very fortunate man.

John O’Brien was found guilty of theft nf a suit case, containing clothing. valued at £3. with a recommendation to mercy on account of his age. He was sentenced to twelve months’ imprisonment, and declared an habitual criminal.

ACQUITTED ON SECOND TRIAL. Dunedin, May 12

At the second hearing of the charge against William Michael. Wilkinson of supplying a noxious thing, with , intent to procure abortion, tihe jury returned a verdict, of not guilty, and prisoner was acquitted.

FOUND GUILTY ON SECOND TRIAL.

Dunedin, May 13.

The second trial of George Arthur Kelly and Richard Pohara Edmonds, who were charged with unlawfully using an instrument with intent to procure miscarriage, was heard to-dav before Mr. Justice Reed. Both accused were found guilty, and the jury' strongly recommended . the votinger prisoner. Edmonds, to leniency on account of his youth. The prisoners will be sentenced to-morrow morning.

BREAKING. ENTERING, AND THEFT.

New Plymouth, Mav 13

In the Supreme Court, Arthur Hasler pleaded guilty to a charge of breaking. entering, and theft, and was sentenced to twelve months’ imprisonment with hard labour.
