JAPANESE ELECTIONS
STRENGTH OF PARTIES
FURTHER FACTIONAL FIGHTING By Telegraph—Press Association. Copyright. Toklo, May 12. Though the election is over, the announcement of the poll at Morioka, Numadzu, and elsewhere led to frenh disturbances. Partisans of the defeated candidates stormed the rival committee rooms, and did considerable damage to property. Factional fights at Numadzu necessitated the calling out of police reinforcements from neighbouring towns before order was restored. The results at noon were: Kenseikai, 63; Seivukai, 36; Seiyu Honto, 41; Kakushin Club, 16; Business men. 9; Independents, 28. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. KENSEIKAI PREPARING CABINET LISTS (Rec. May 13, 7.55 p.m.) Tokio, May 12. Tho latest returns show that the Kenseikai have 142. seats, the Seiyukai 89, the Seiyo Honto 102, the Kakushin 29, and the Independents 63. There remain 39 seats yet uncertain, but it is believed that the Kenseikai will win tho greater number of these and tho new Government parties are certain to have an overwheHming majority. This ip the most crushing defeat received by any Cabinet during the past quarter of a century. Tho Primo Minister, Mr. Mizuno, who is urging Viscount Kiyoura to remain in office, conferred with the Marquis Saionji, the Elder Statesman, and it is understood has asked him to approve of another dissolution of the Diet. It is not believed), however, that the venerable leader will countenance such a step in the face of the avowed unpopularity of tho Kiyoura Cabinet. The Kenseikai are already preparing prospective Cabinet lists. Viscount Kato is considered to be the most likely asnirant to the Premier-ship—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
