“FOR THE GOOD OF THE GAME”

PROVISIONAL REINSTATEMENT OF ATHLETES.

At tho last meeting of the IVellingtou Amateur Athletic Association strong exception was taken to the action of the New Zealand body in granting provisional reinstatement. It was urged that an athlete should not compete at a meeting unless ho was fully reinstated. In reply to this criticism, Mt. A. T. Davies, chairman of the N.Z.A.A.A., said) last night that provisional reinstatements were granted for the good of the game. It had been the practice for some years now. It was the custom for tho reinstatement committee to get in touch with as many of the members of the New Zealand body as possible, and see what their attitude towards a reinstatement was. If it was favourable then the provisional reinstatement was granted, and confirmed at the next meeting of the council. Mr. Davies explained that as tho N.Z.A.A.A. met only once a month, an athlete might have to miss a meeting if. ho had to wait for the full council to discuss his application for reinstatement. It was to avoid this that such reinstatements wero made.
