MUSICAL CONTEST

The fourth annual musical, elocutionary, and oratorical contest was opened last evening in Wesley Hall, Taranaki Street, by the Mayor (Mr. R. A. Wright, M.P.). The Rev. E. S. Olds presided. Mr. Robert Parker, judge of the musical section, made awards as follow:— Junior pianoforte solo—Miss Joxco Hardham Bass test recital—M. Harrison. Sacred solo (our selection), ladies— Miss G. Dawson, 1; Miss Tonks, 2. Junior pianoforte duct (own selection) —Misses M. Clarke and D. Burn. Solo, (own selection), gentlemen—Mr. W. H. Armstrong. Vocal duct —Messrs. Sutherland and Dawson. Violin solo —Miss Watkins.

Soprano test —Master W. Brown. Quartet (own selection) —Misses Dawson and Sutherland, Messrs. Hay mas and Stokes.
