“RATHER A VIOLENT INDIVIDUAL”
FIREMAN IN 'TROUBLE. A fireman named George Shaw appeared before; Mr. E. Pago, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday. It was stated that Shaw had declined to leave the Pier Hotel when requested, and during the ensuing argument a coat had been damaged and obscene language used. Shaw denied all the charges. He maintained that he was not drunk, and that the coat had “got torn.” His Worship took a different view. For drunkenness accused was fined 55., in default 24 hours’ imprisonment. £2, with tho alternative of seven days in gaol for refusing to quit the licensed premises ; £3. in default 14 days’ imprisonment for the use of the language ; and for damaging the coat he was ordered to make restitution to the extent of £7 7s. 'rhe default.in that case, added the Magistrate, would be 21 days’ in gaol. “He seems to be a rather violent individual,” commented. Sub-Inspector Cameron, when submitting the list of previous convictions.
