He was. in addition made the subject of a prohibition order for 12 "“wiUiam Wilson, a fifth offender for insobriety, was fined .£3, m default 14 days’ imprisonment, and £l, with the option of spending seven days in gaol, for procuring liquor during *he currency of his prohibition order. With two previous convictions for drunkenness, James Michael Simeon was fined £l, with the ’alternative of three days’ imprisonment, and *• second offender named Thomas Mylett, who did not appear, was fined the amount of his bail (£1). A sentence of two months imprisonment was imposed on John O’Brien, alias Edward Cotter, who was charged with stealing dll from Wong Gin. "Thank you very much, sir,” said accused as he stepped down. Braund was ordered to pay the New Zealand Express Co., Ltd., £'6 6s. 2d. before May 20, in default three days’ imprisonment; Lionel Bidwell Rhodes to pay tho State Advances Superintendent £lB 15s. 9d. before May 20, in default ten days’ imprisonment. BY-LAW BREACHES. The by-law cases were heard before Mr. C. R. Orr-Wa’.ker, S.M. Failure to attend drill cost Huia Clarence Jeffries and Albert James Aston each £1 and costs. Fines of £2 and costs were imposed on Arthur Keith Bonner, Robert Hedley, Ralph Craig, William Manning Craig, and William Frederick Mason, who had failed to register under the Defence Act. For failing to comply with a cleansing order William Ryan was fined £1 and coats. Robert Johnston, whose house contained defective taps, and sink waste pipe, was fined £1 and costs £1 Is. For keeping his backyard in a condition likely to prove a harbour for rats, Abraham Josephs wm fined £2 and costs.
Albert Walsh, who left a horse-drawn vehicle in the middle of the street contrary to the new by-law. was fined ss. and costs For permitting the existence of fly lavae, George Swensson was fined £2 and cods, Edward N. Sutherland. £1 10s., md James Joseph Jackson and Denis Mulhane, each £1 and costs.
