Referring to the use of grounds at Miramar Park, the Wellington Provincial Lawn Tennis Association advised that after considerable delay in negotiating with tho Citv Council and tho British Imperial Oil Company regarding the fencing, tenders would now be called for the work. When that was commenced the greater portion of the grounds would be ploughed, and preparations for the courts started. After the annoying delays experienced, concluded the letter, the committee could not enter into any arrangements that would be likely to hamper it in its plans. The Grounds Committee wculd like to give the union the use cf the grounds, but such use could only be given from week to week. It was decided to suggest the following prices of admission for the three big games to be played in Wellington grior to tho departure of the All lacks : —Possible v. THE MARIST DISPUTE LOCAL RESOLUTION FORWARDED An echo of the recent rift in the Rugby lute in Christchurch was heard at a meeting of the Management Committee of the Wellington Rugby Union last night, when the local Marist Club requested that the accompanying resolution, passed at a special meeting, bo forwarded to the parent body:— “That this meeting of the Marist Brothers Old Boys Football Club, while affirming its loyalty to Rugby, enter* a strong protest against the failure of the Central Executive of the New Zealand Rugby Union to deal promptly and reasonably with the difficulties that existed between the Marist Old Boys of Christchurch and the Canterbury Rugby Union.” . . “It is somewhat difficult to deal with this matter,” remarked the chairman (Mr. J. Prendeville), “as it is really no concern of this union, but the Marist Club have passed this resolution and asked us to forward it to the New Zealand Union—their only proper channel through which it could be foiwarded, It is just a question whether we can act upon it and convey it. Seeing the peculiar position that arose and the difficulties that might have arisen out of the. Christchurch trouble, possibly there is no objection to our forwarding the resolution. It is a somewhat difficult position, but under the special circumstances —the matter affected quite a few clubs In New Zealand at the time —I think that we would be justified in sending the resolution on.” Mr. F. A. Laws remarked that the committee was not asked for an expression of opinion. Mr. J. N. Millard: We send it on as a matter of course. The chairman: Except, of course, in a caso where a club passes a resolution derogatory to the New Zealand Union. We can, and should, use our discretion. In the present case the circumstances are, as I have remarked, exceptional, and 1 think it proper that the resolution should 'oe forwarded as requested by the Marist Club. On the motion of Mr. A. Jackson, seconded hv Mr. Laws, the meeting moved in the direction indicated by the chairman. RANFURLY SHIELD. The first match for the Ranfurly Shield, at present held by Hawke’s Bay, is to be played ,on June 3, the challengers being Wairarapa. Taranaki have notified the holders that they will not be able to visit Hawke’s Bay this season.
