WEEK-END OF INTENSIVE WORK EFFECTS STARTLING TRANSFORMATION By tklegbj eh.—press association. Copyright. London, April 21. A week-end of intensive work on a scale unprecedented in the history of Britain has effected a startling transformation at the Empire Exhibition. The efforts of 12,000 men, working night and day, resulted in the attainment of “90 per cent, readiness.” Ihe majority of the pavilions are complete in every detail; others require only last-minute touches- The last 36 hours is being devoted to clearing and cleaning up. To-day bonfires of burning debris studded the exhibition area. To-night Princess Marie Louise unveiled the entrance of _ the British Guinea Pavilion, consisting of an ingenious model of the Kaiweur Waterfall. which is seven times as high as Niagara The mechanism, assisted by lights aggregating 12,000 candle-power on revolving discs, produces such an optical illusion that the cement looks like running water and spray-—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. BRITISH GOVERNMENTS PAVILION MODELS OF WESTERN WAR FRONT. (Rec- April 22, 8.5 p.m.) London. April 21. The British Government’s Pavilion includes a phenomenal range of exhibits, including models of the entire western front to the last scorched ana mangled tree stump, also stage sets reproducing all the famous battles in British history. A Zeppelin raid on London will be reproduced m a working model. Tho newspapers favourably comment on the fewness of the sideshows for which separate admission is being charged. Messrs. Lyons and Co. publish staggering figures of the Dominion foodstuffs which will be consumed in their fifty-four cafes. The figures include 75 tons of meat, 260 tons of bread and 1500 cases of dried fruits a week. They have built a special rail siding to deal exclusively with milk supplies. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. QUEEN’S EXAMPLE AT OPENING TOILET OF BRITISH MANUFACTURE. London, April 21. The Queen has announced her intention of attending the opening of the Wembley Exhibition wearing a toilet entirely’ of British manufacture, and hopes that other royal ladies who attend will follow her example.—Sydney “Sun” Cable.
