EVOLUTION THEORY
CAUSES TROUBLE IN KENTUCKY TOWN (Rec. March 18, 8.15 p.m.) New York, March 17. A telegram from Springfield. Kentucky, says: This town is experiencing troublous times as a result of the evolution theory. Friendships of a Jitetinm have been rent asunder, deposits nave been withdrawn from one banii ana placed in anothe.r, boycotts have been declared against certain merchants, asj heated discussions approaching dangerously near fistic encounters occur daily, because the Darwinian, or, as popularly put, that man descended from the monkey, theory is being taught in a' local high school. Kentucky has a law which forbids the teaching ot human evolution in those institutions which receive State support. Springfield churches alleged that the superintendent of tho high school was disobeying the law and pro-Darwinians have come to his rescue with turbulent results, prominent speakers being brought in by both .sides. 'The enmity is reaching a surprising degree.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
