WORK HELD UP ON OIL STEAMERS

Tho men engaged by the Vacuum Oil Company and tho British Imperial Oil Company to stack cases of oil from tho City of'Eastbourne and tho Physa in stores, ceased woik at noon to-day and refused to continue till paid' at the same rate as the watersiders (2s. 6d. an hour) instead of Is. lljd., tho award rate for store workers. Both companies referred the matter to their offices in Wellington, and the British Imperial Oil Company advised their agents to accede to the men s request in order not to delay tho Physa further, and the men resumed at 3.4-j. The Vacuum Company’s agents have not yet received definite instructions, but ‘it is anticipated that work will be resumed on their vessel in the morning.
