Tn the report of the retrial of the motor collision case. Ferguson v. Flipp. it was made to appear that the Chief Justice would not grant costs to defendant. Wo pro informed that as n matter of fact His Honour granted the scale costs of the second trial to defendant, together with £l5 15s. for the extra days. Plaintiff is nlso to pay witnesses’ expenses, to be fixed by the Registrar, and the costs of tho special jury. Owing to tho fact that plaintiff had suffered severely. His Honour did not make any order with regard to the costs of the first trial.
Tho stay of H.M.S. Hood and Repulse at Wellington will probably be enlivened by a cutter (pulling) race between picked crews from the vessels named and H.M.S. Chatham. The General Executive Committee, which is making arrangements for the reception and entertainment of the officers and crows, has received tho offer <4 a challenge cup from Mr. .T. G. Frobisher, of Wellington (formerly in the British Navy). Whether tho challenge cup will bo accepted will remain with the Vice-Admiral, to whom all such matters arc being referred by letter whilst the vessels aro still in Australian waters.
