CLAIMS FOR DOMINION AWARD To-morrow morning a Dominion Council will eit, under the cluairmanship of Commissioner Newton, to consider tho claims of the shop assistants for a Dominion award, with tho exception of Christchurch, where la district award has just been filed. The employers have filed claims in each district, but have consented to consider the matter on. a Dominion basis. Tho assessors nominated are as follow Employers, Messrs. T. Forsyth (Wellington), W. E. Lane (Dunedin), D. AV. Matheson. (Levin), J. R. Rendell (Auckland), A- Itobflnsan (Nelson), and B. L. Hammoitd (Web lingt.cn). Union: Messrs. A. W. Croskery (Wellington), IV. A. A. Batchelor Vluiied'ipV, Theis. O’Byrne ’(lnvercargill). J. B. Carr (Nelson), H. J. Mortenson (Auckland), and A. J. Humhpriea (Wellington). The union claims the following wages: —Branch manager or manageress, where no assistants are employed, £7 per weoK; with ono assistant, £7 10s.; two assistant, £8; three or more, £8 10. Departmental manager, i£6 10s.; with one assistant, £7; with two, £7 10s.; three or more, £B. Window-dresser, £6 10s. Traveller, £5 10s. Assistants, commencingat 16 years old or under, males £1 10s„ females £1 55.; second year, males £a, females £1 155.; third year, males £2 10s, females £2 55.; fourth year, males £3 55.. females £2 15si; nfth years, males £3 155.; thereofter, seniors, males £5 10s„ females (after fourth year), £3 15s. , , The employers proposals for wages, with the old rate in parentheses, are:— Assistants, commencing at 17 years of age and under, males 17s. 6d. (£1 Is.), females 15s. (18s. 6d.); second year, males £1 2s. 6d. (£1 Bs. 6d.), females £1 (£1 3s. 6d.); third year, males £1 10s. (£1 18s. 6d.), females £1 ss. (£1 Bs. 6d.); fourth year, mala s ? «£2 2s. 6d. («£2 Ils.), females £1 10s. (£1 13s. 6d.); fifth year, males £3 3s. (£3 55.), females £1 16s. 6d (£1 17s. Gd.); thereafter, males £4 Os.’ 6d. (£4 2s. The unions claim tho following hours: —Seniors, 9 to 5 p.m. (one hour oft for meal) on week-days, and 9 a.m. to noon on Saturdays; juniors, 8.45 a.m. to o p.m. on Week-days, 8.45 to noon on Saturdays; apprentices, storemen, packers, nortors, and liftmen, 8.30 a.m. ,to 5 p.m. on week-days, 8.30 a.m. to noon on Saturdays. ~ , _ , , The employers claim the hours fixed by the Shops and Offices Act.
