The Prime Minister and several members of the Government, who went to Auckland to meet him on his return from the Imperial Conference, arrived in Wellington, on Saturday. Mr. W. C. Hildebrandt, of Lindeman, Limited, Sydney, is at present on a visit to Wellington. Mr. F, H. Mather, Mayor of Eastbourne, who has been ill for some time, has been granted leave, of absence from bis duties by the Eastbourne Borough Council. Mr. A. L. Monteith, M.P. for 'Wellington East, was entertained, by tho members of the Tramways Union at a socjal on Thursday last as a mark of appreciation of his work as secretary of the union. During the evening Mr. Monteith was presented with a portable typewriter and gold albert, and Mrs. Monteith with a gold brooch. Mr. F. H. Bakewell, senior inspector in the Wellington educational district (says the Christchurch. “Sun”), is to take up his duties in the Otago district for three months from April 1 next. Mr. O. W. Garrard, of Auckland, was previously announced to take tho Otago inspectorship, but the decision has been altered. Mr. T. W. Leslie, who accompanied tho Wellington cricket team to Dunedin as masseur, was last Thursday night presented by the players with a Doulton-ware salad bowl in appreciation of his valuable services. . Mr. Leslie had quite a lot of “patients” on his hands during dho match, several players sustaining more or less serious injuries The death occurred at Christchurch on Saturday of Mr. J. D. Millton, ot Birch Hill, at tho age of 64. Mr. Millton arrived in New. Zealand at an early age with his parents, who settled at Birch Hill. Upon the death of his father tho property was divided between the late Mr. Millton and bis brother, Colonel Millton. Mr. Millton leaves a wife and one son, who is now associate to Sir Frederick Cliapmun, and who was previously aido-dc-oatnp to the Governor-General. Mr. Millton (states a Press Association telegram) was in earlier years a well-known foorballor, having * represented Canterbury at one time. He was on tho Military Service Board during tho war.
