SUICIDE OF A COUNTY ENGINEER

The body of John Herbert Lewia, engineer to the Clutha County Council, was found at Puerua on Friday with a discharged revolver lying beside it. , , Deceased was due to go to Queenstown in connection with the Kawarau dam proceedings, but instead he took his car out to a lonely spot on the Puerua River, where the body was Lewis had been in straitened financial circumstances, and it is thought this had affected his mind. A verdict was returned that death was due to a wound self-inflicted while his mind was temporarily unhinged.
