WORKERS’ EDUCATIONAL ASSOCIATION

At the last meeting of the Wellington District Council of the Workers’ Educational Association, the president (Mr. M. J. Forde) being in the chair, advice was received that five or six professors of Victoria College University were prepared to deliver lectures, under the auspices of the W.E.A., in the smaller centres of the Wellington University district. It was decided that lectures should be given in New Plymouth, Stratford, Hawera, Paten, Inglewood, Wanganui, Marton, Palmerston North, Felldftig, Foxton, Levin, Masterton, Daaunevirke, Hastings, Napier, Picton, Blenheim, and Nelson during the month of March or earlier. The annual Dominion Conference will be held in Wellington on February 7, and on the same night a demonstration will take place, the Mayor (Mr. R. A. Wright) presiding, when Mr. J. D. Acl and, 8.A., and Professor Shelley, of Christchurch, will deliver addresses. In accordance with a request from tho National Executive, it was decided to ask Mr. P. Fraser, M.P., to address the meeting on the subject of eiiucatirin from tho workers’ viewpoint. The question of finance evoked a lengthy discussion, and it was stated that <£2oo more than the amount received last year was necessary, otherwise the association would have to restrict its activities considerably during the present year. It was agreed that, in view of the Governments expressed intention of not increasing the present subsidy, to make a strong appeal to all members of the community who at|e interested in tho spread of education.
