JAPANESE SQUADRON

SUGGESTED ITINERARY The Honorary Consul for Japan. Mr. Arthur Young,. states that tho following is the suggested itinerary of the Japanese training squadron, ; during their stay in Wellington, subject to their approval: — The warships consist of the ■ following ships: Iwate, Asaina, and Yakumo. The squadron is under the command of Ills Excellency Vice-Admiral S. Saito, C’.B.

Monday, February 4, 1 p.m.—-'War-ships arrive. Un arrival they will lire it salute of 21 guns to the country, which will be replied to by H.M.S. Chatham, with a salute of 15 guns. After the visit of the general, the warships will fire a salute of 13 guns, and after the visit or' the commodore a salute of 11 guns will be fired. The afternoon will be devoted to official calls. Tuesday, February 5.—A visit will be made to the environs of the city by cadets in observation cars. .The general officer commanding the New Zealand Military Forces will call on the admiral, who will return official calls. At 1 p.m. a luncheon will be given to the vice-admiral, his staff, and the principal officers of the squadron, by members of the Government at the Parliament Buildings. Some of the crews will be taken round the city in observation cars. A partv of cadets will visit the public institutions. At 3 p.m. a civio reception will be given at the Concert Chamber of*the Town Hall. At 8 p.m. a dinner will be given to the admiral and captain by the commodore on board H.AI.S. ChatWednekday, February 6.—Probably a visit will bo made to the Weraroa Farm bv from 50 to 100 cadets. A trip in observation cars will be made round th'e city bv some of the crews. A further party of cadets will visit public institutions. . ... Thursday, February 7.—A trip will be given round the city to some of the crew. Z A luncheon will he given to the vice-admiral, staff and officers, by the Rotarv Club, and in the evening it is proposed that a dinner will be given to the vice-admiral, staff and officers, on shore .... Friday, February B—A trip will be given to the remainder of the crew m observation cars round the city Further visits will be made bv cadets to public institutions. In addition to the above, the vice-admiral, staff and officers will be privately entertained nt dinner and private social events. Iby various picture theatres and His Maiestv’s Theatre have invited the officers and crows free entry to their theatres whilst they are here.
