EXCITING CHASE IN MOTORBOAT RIFLE SHOT ENCOURAGES SURRENDER Br Telegraph—Press Association-. Auckland, January 17. The recapture of the remaining two escaped prisoners, Davidson and Helm, was effected by the police to-day after a long pursuit of an auxiliary boat by a motor-launch. 1 At 2 a.m. this morning the stealthy movement of a sailing craft off Parnell aroused suspicions, and the police sat off in pursuit. Tlie fugitives could not start the engine, and had to rely on the sails. When in Tiri channel, about 9 o’clock, tjiey endeavoured to evade their pursuers by tacking, but the firing of a rifle shot across the bows of the boat caused their surrender. The third man, Scarbrou, was arrested in the city.
