For the first time for ten years, the crews to represent the Star Club at the Picton Regatta ate taking a whaleboat with them. This was always a custom before the war. The whale bout will be taken to Picton on the Wainui, and will be used for cruising around the Sounds. The following officers were elected at a meeting of the Picton Regatta Committee :—Patrons, Messrs. W. J. Girling, M.P., John Duncan, and R. McCallum ; president, Mr. G. J. Riddell; vice-presidents, the presidents of the Picton, Wairau, and Blenheim Rowing Clubs, and Mr. C. M. S. Healey; judges, Messrs. G. J. Riddell, A. Clinch, and R. Smith; time-keeper, Mr. C. IM. Bay; treasurer, Mr. G. A. Smith; umpires, Messrs. W. J. Girling, M.P., and C. Fredericks; starter, IVIr G., A. Smith; secretary, Mr. H. C. Madson; committee, Messrs.. A. A. Perano, L. M. Carnahan, E. R. Lane, A. R. Smith, E. C. Perano, N. R. McIsaac. A. G. Jackson, L. Traill, officers ex officio, and captains of visiting crews.
The following crews are the final selection to represent the Star Chib at the Picton Regatta :—Maiden fours : E. Deil 1 (str.), C. Blundell (3), 11. McLean (2), and D. The events are open to members of the Petone Rowing Chib, exclusively. Fears are entertained in Adelaide that there will not be a rowing crew to represent Australia at the Olympic Games. It will take some time to select delegates, whoso task will be to recommend a suitable crew, it is stated, and as the Olympic Federation will not meet until the second week in January, it is contended that the chosen crew would have only a limited time to train. Accord’ng to one writer, the choice of a crew is being repeatedly shelved .simply because of the fear of giving offence to certain States who show a fretful discontent if they do not get all the selections, ,
