SANDERS CUP TRIALS « LINNET WINS SECOND RACE AT LYTTELTON By TELEGRA.ru— Press Association. Christchurch, December 3. Linnet Avon the second race in the Sanders Cup trials at Lyttelton yesterday, defeating Secret by 7min. 45 sec. Lapwing was outclassed. The weather was beautiful, the wind changing shortly after the start from a puffy easterly to a steady north-easterly. In a short run to the first mark, Linnet, gained 7sec. on Secret, with Lapwing 25sec. behind. On the thrash to windward, Linnet drew away from Secret, but the leader had to make another tack before rounding, while Secret fetched the mark after a long leg of two miles. Linnet was first round, 35 sec. ahead, .'nd on the lead back to the first mark Linnet left Secret, and from thence each bouy she rounded the difference increased. At the final, Lapwing was about a mile down the harbour. The third race will take place next Sunday. EVANS BAY CLUB HANDICAPS The Evans Bav Yacht and Motor Boat Club opened its racing programme on Saturday afternoon with a club handicap for keel yachts, 18-foot and under class yachts, and motor boats.
