* GERMAN NEGOTIATIONS FOR PURCHASE (Rec. December 3, 7.30 p.m.) Brisbane, December 3. The steamer Houtman brings news from the East Indies that the Duke of Mecklenburg, the former Governor of Togoland, recently visited Dutch New Guinea. It is rumoured that his visit was to negotiate for tho purchase of the Dutch possessions there on behalf of the German Government. It is stated that there are many. Germans located in the town and islands adjacent to tho Java coast. —Press Assn.
