HUNDREDS ALIGHT ON KETCH

An unusual incident occurred on board tho ketch Rira, which arrived at Auckland from Grafton, Clarence River, on Friday. When the vessel was off The Three Kings she was visited by hundreds of seagulls, vhich new aboard shortly after midday and remained on the vessel for about ten hours. The birds walked about the docks and on top of the deck houses. They showed very little fear, and .moved away slowly when approached, t’he mate of the Rira, with 35 tears experience at sea, said he had never bad such an experience. It seemed as though the birds had flown aboard to shelter from some unknown danger. The crew fed the birds with, meat and bread.
