THE RACING WORLD

FEUDING MEETING KAREAO WINS ST. ANDREW’S HANDICAP TAMATETE SCORES IN FEUDING STAKES (By Telegraph—From “The Watcher.”) Feilding, November 28. The spring meeting of the Feilding Jockey Club opened to-day in fine weather in the presence of a large attendance. The track was hard. With the exception of the Stakes, fields were large and all the racing was interesting. The feature of the day was the success of the West Coast horses, Taranaki stables providing seven dividends, including four winners, two of them taking the big handicaps. The Ashhurst Cup winner, Kai’eao, scored in the St. Andrew s Handicap from another Hawera horse, Muraahi. The Flying Handicap went to Halgina, also from Hawera, and the other important race, the Feilding Stakes, was won by that brilliant sprinter Tamatete. The totalisator handled £23,376, an increase of £1469 on the first day of last year, which was postponed on account of bad weather.

THE RACING DESCRIBED WAITUNA HURDLES. Otauru Kid and Antler were scratched for the Waituna Hurdles. Bonibrook being a firm favourite, with a lot of support also for Nukumai. Automoana lod from Bonibrook, Nukumai, and Eerie for over a mile. Turning for homo Eerie ran to the front, and gradually increasing her lead she was ten lengths to tho good when the post was reached. Bonibrook finished Letter than Nukumai, and beat him for second place by two lengths, with Second Choice half a length away, followed by Battle Song, Automoana and Frizzier. It was a very easy victory for Eerie. The distance was just a little too far for Automoana and Second Choice. TRIAL PLATE.

Gold Peak and Lucrative were scratched for the Trial Plate, which provided a great finish. All was a warm favourite, and of the others Equalise and Millimetre were the only ones well backed. Millimetre drew the rails and with Azeeta was first out from Equalise and Euralla, the favourite being back amongst the bunch. Bv the time they got to the half mile post the leaders were well clear All Gold set out after them nt this stage, and turning for home was within a couple of lengths. When in line Millimetre and Azeeta were having a ding dong struggle W,ith All Gold gradually creeping up. Qver the last bit Road Hog came with a great rush, and tho four horses, passed the post almost in a line. Millimetre on the inside getting the verdict. The favourite was third, and Road Hog next. Sis lengths back came Equalise and Eurella together, and then bubmerge and Vanchiniel. ST. ANDREW’S HANDICAP. Scotch Mixture was tho only withdrawal from the big handicap, leaving fourteen runners. It was a great betting race with Alaric always naving a slight call over the others, or whom Haurangi, Paiitler, Megan, and Arch Salute were the only real outsiders. Thev were sent off to an excellent start, from which Alaric took up the running from a bunch, but before thev. had covered a furlong Pantlor and Diamond Ring had rushed into the lead from Megan, Admiral Codrington and Alaric, the rear division comprising Trepass, Demand, Zouave, and Muraahi. Down the back the order was still the same, but approaching the half mile post Kareao and Zouave moved up with Printemps and Arch Salute, while Muraaln, Demand, and Trespass were still well back. Turning for home both Zouave and Kareao appeared to have the measure of the loaders but Diamond Ring was running strongly. Seizing an opening on the rails Kareao was actually the first to straighten up from Diamond Ring and ZouaVe, Megan having stopped, while Alaric and i rintemps were close up with Admiral Codrington next, and Muraahi running over tho rear lot, followed by Trespass. At tho distance Kareao was clear and ridden out he beat the fast finishing Muraahi by three parts or a length, the latter having beaten Diamond Ring by half a length. was the best part of a length off on terms with Printemps, who was placed fourth. Admiral Codrington was next, followed by Demand and Trespass, who were finishing on from well back, and Zouave, who. had failed to run on All the others including Marqueteur were well back. The winner won well but he got a very lucky passage on the rails at a critical moment Zouav<s was asked to cover a lot ot ground on the home turn. pot a ba<J run m the race and from tho position he was in turning for home put up a good effort to be in the picture behind the piaced horses at the finish. Alario appeared to be beaten on his merits. Ho covered less ground than anything in the race. Muraahi was unlucky. He usually begins slowly but to-day he was giving away a lot of ground. KOWHAI HACK HANDICAP. Explorer Velociform. Sunny Vale, Bonecto, add Advent were scratched, leaving a field of 19. Kalnkaua was the actual favourite, but there was support for all the runners bar halt a dozen. The favourite hopped off quickly but was soon passed by Cairo, Eonmark. and Rose Martian. Those were the leaders to the turn, the others being well strong out, the most prominent being Miss Mickey Tinohari, and Fleeting, while Black Cruiser was one of the whippets in. In tho straight Cairo had drawn clear, and at the distance Fleeting, Rose Martian Tinohari, Mid Opa challenged. Cairo had no difficulty in maintaining his advantage, and he won by half a length from Fleeting, while Velvet King came with a wot sail into third place, three parts of a length away, followed bv Opa, with Rose Martian. Tinohari, Elvaette. Miss Mickey, and Black Cruiser bunched. Tho winner is a four-vear-old gelding, bred by Mr. T H. Lowrv. being by Egypt out of Beld'ane, and is owned and trained in Gisborne. He won without being extended. and is evidently above the average.

FLYING HANDICAP. Alarm was the only vcrrddHug for

the sprint event, Halgina being an even money favourite. There was a good deal of support for Scotch Mixture probably on account of McCarten having the mount, while Civilform also found numerous supporters. When tho barrier went, up Good Sport and Ngata lost ground. Oivilform, from No 1, was first out, but Snatcher, Island and! Still Sea. went with him, and they had nearest them Halgina and Scotch Mixture, the others being fairly well back. As they turned for home Halgina began to go up. while Good Sport had come up almost on terms with the favourite, with Happy Davs and Ngita making up ground. Civilform was first into tho straight from Snatcher, Island, and Still Sea, and then Halgina got a run on the rails. At tho distance. Civilform, who had hung out badly on tho turn, faltered and! Halgina gradually drew up to Snatcher, with Good Sport and Happv Days challenging on the outside. In the run homo Haligna. finished well and won by half a length from Happy Days, who held on with a well sustained run. and bent Snatcher by a. similar margin/ Good Sport was only a neck further off, with Island, Still Sea. and Ngata. close up. Scotch Mixture and Civilform were next, Jackeroo being the last to finish. The winner scored comfortably, and he was well handled 1 . At the same time Happy Days might have caused him trouble had he been better placed for the run homo. Good Snort was another who was badly placed in the early stages, and he did "’ell to get fourth. FEILDING STAKES. The scratching of Soliform, Foolish, Muria, and Ora’s Delight left only four to contest the Eighteenth Feeding Stakes, the runners being all five-year-olds and geldings, except Thespian, and all except Waipatu were sired by Absurd. Tamatete was made a very hot favourite. Tamatete from the inside berth began brilliantly, and leading all the way won by a length from Thespian,, with Rational another half-length off, and Waipatu eight lengths further back in last place. The winner was never extended at any stage of the journey, and is apparently as good as ever. Rational had headed Thespian when half the journey had been covered, but Thespian finished better over the last furlong. FITZROY HACK HANDICAP. The scratchings were Good Sport, Euchre, San Franette, and Rene Mavis. 17 going to the post. Civility was a good favourite, with the next half dozen evenly backed. When the field had settled down, Civility showed out from Hytinus and Pantagruel, and their nearest attendants on the home turn were Sunny Vale and Avola. In the run home .Avola finished too fast for Civility, winning comfortably by a length, with Panta gurel half a length away. _ Sunny Vale was close up fourth, with Hytinus, Radiac. Kilns, and Cushat heading a bunched field. The winner gave a great return for one who had recently been showing good form. Some of the runners got pinched out soon after the start, among them being Dodo, Grace, All Marimba, and Tatrina; the first-named running last practically all thp way.

KIWITEA WELTER HANDICAP. Mountain Crag was tho only withdrawal from the concluding event, which saw a big turn-up in the littlefancied Listowel. He not only won giving away lumps of weight, but ho was responsible for a fine performance, for with Sunny Jim he was turned sideways to the harrier when it was released, and they were at least fifty yards in the rear going out of the straight. Sunny Jim and Hallowroz were solidly backed, and there was support for several others in tho best pool of the day. Apart from the two who were left standing it was a good start, from which Counter Attack. Mntareka, Hallowroz, and Aeriform showed out. Entering tho back, stretch the firstnamed was two lengths clear of Matareka, who was showing out from Aeriform', with Hallowroz. Amber Tips, and Roman prominent. Tn the straight Counter Attack was still going well, but Motareka was beaten and then Amber Tips and Velociform challenged. At tho distance. Listowel. swooped down from tho rear, and finishing full of running, scored by the best port of a length. A head separated Volociforrn and Counter Attack, with Amber Tips. Bumptious. Hallowroz, Mantulin. and Helen Rufus spread across tho course, and nil close up. Cochineal bled and finished aftc- the field. Aeriform dropp’d out of tho running after seven furlongs, and none of the others wers prominent.
